Well, well, well. probably not worth writing a RR about if i could just stroll in and be first.

Unless, it's a final, I think the RR should be on the most compelling/competitive matches of the day.

The commentators were talking about Murray's short hair and being 'freshly shaven'. Oy oy Peter Bodo shame on you - the fact please??

nadals forehand was good and the purple tennis gear was good.

wouldnt like to be murray tomorrow change of court conditions are different and the balls are different wawrinka probably isnt the first opponent you want

I appreciate the RRs, especially when the time difference is so great that there is no hope of watching the match myself. Thank you!

Enjoyed the read, Pete.

wilson75 - presumably, the RRs need to be planned as much as anything else on the site, so it's not always going to be possible to predict the most compelling matches before they happen. Even tennis writers must have to do things other than watch matches all day every day, too, with a view to writing about the most interesting results - convenience and ability to watch at certain times must play a part in deciding what to cover. As would the writers' interest in matches or one particular player in a match (I like to think this is the most important thing.) Plus, opinions are always going to differ as to what's most interesting.

Sure I would've liked to read an RR on Kei vs JWT, for example, but that's in hindsight. Looking down the OOP, deciding between world no 4 vs whatever Kei is and the ATP 2's first match after what must've been a disappointing loss on Sunday, vs someone who beat him at this stage of the year last year, I can see someone might prefer to be choosing the second.

To all who ask about how RRs are selected, jewell's comment is as good a point of reference as any. During the Slams -- and big tournaments that don't begin at 2 am EST -- we have some more flexibility, but an event like Shanghai is more difficult to tackle. Saying that, expect RRs on all the good stuff come Australia.

Also, Pete will be posting on Kei's big win later today, and Steve Tignor's newest notebook is up now. Thanks for stopping by, everyone.

Any Rafa match deserves a RR. He is the center of the tennis universe due to his excellence on and off the court. He wins this tournament, take it to the bank.

the centre of the tennis universe is playing in purple...power to the purple.

There are a great many people around the world who will click on anything and everything with the words 'Rafael' and/or 'Nadal' in the title. I am one of them.

Liz, LOL at your comments and may I say me too!

wish I had the Tennis Channel and could watch these matches in Asia. Still no Tennis Channel on Verizon FIOS - so unfair.

Pete....you obviously were't watching or listening to the match.....the commentators were talking about Andys look...not Rafas....Andy was right behind Rafa.....Pay attention your a tennis writer for good ness sakes!!

***murray was watching rafa/wafa n thort, if i wear all purple tennis gear then i will finally win a major (or ten).

***has rafa/wafa given up those lime green horrorfest shirts finally ?..lets hope so.

Such a cute layout! Love the quilt. I need to make one for a friend and this pattern is great

The most interesting thing about this match was the fact that Murray was in the otherwise empty crowd.

Posted by why are we still discussing this match?
